Norton Healthcare Charity of the Week
Breast Cancer Awareness as Charity of the Week
Tomorrow's Louisville Lightning match against the Ohio Vortex will be a 'Pink-Out' in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The Lightning will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off in a silent auction during the game. All proceeds will go directly to the Charity of the Week, the local Louisville Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen foundation. Since their establishment in 1999, the Affiliate has contributed over $4 million to community breast health education, screening, and treatment programs, in addition to $1.4 million donated to breast cancer research. For more information or to make a donation to the Affiliate, go to their website at http://www.komenlouisville.org. Tricia Amburgey, Senior Director of Sponsorship Sales at Churchill Downs will be taking the ceremonial First Kick of the game. Churchill has been instrumental in helping to raise awareness for Breast Cancer through events surrounding the Kentucky Derby and Oaks celebrations each May.
During the game, Nativity Academy will be holding a 50/50 raffle, with proceeds benefitting local students from low-income households. Their mission is to inspire a love of learning within their students and enable them to reach their potential. More information about the school can be found on their website, http://www.nativitylouisville.org/.
The Lightning will also partner with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund this week for Thursday night's youth clinic at MVSC. The Fund was founded over 40 years ago with the goal of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. Though there is yet no cure, the JDRF has made an immense impact on improving the quality of life for those with the disease. For more information or to make a donation to the JDRF, visit their website at http://www.jdrf.org.
